Volunteer

In the documentary, Family Across the Sea, Dr. Emory Campbell shares the words his mother would say in Gullah - "We gon tell em all bout we island, we gon make dem feel dat dem dey home." It is with this spirit that the Board Members, staff and volunteers of the Native Island Business Business & Community Affairs Association and the the Hilton Head Island Native Community Association present and manage the annual Hilton Head Island Gullah Celebration and De Gullah Creations Gallery & Gift Shop.

The story of the Gullah people and their traditions are considered a "remarkable cultural treasure" and travelers from all over the world come to Hilton Head each year to experience the culture and share in its homegrown treasures.

We can not do this without your support and everyone is welcome. So whether you are a native Islander, part-time or new resident, retiree, or college student, please become a volunteer today. As a bonus, volunteers receive complimentary tickets to Gullah Celebration events and a discount on all Gallery purchases!

The Gullah Celebration (February 2008) and the Gullah Creations Gallery & Gift Shop (year round) are both non-profit entities, and staffed by volunteers. Volunteers serve as event committee chairs and members, ticket takers/sellers, docents, ushers, crafts persons and more!
